Collection and storage of personal data, nature and purpose of their use

The term “personal data” refers to all data that can be related to you personally. This includes, for example, your name, address, email addresses and IP address.

Log files

Every time a user accesses the website of the Berlin-Brandenburgische Akademie der Wissenschaften and every time a file is accessed, data about this process is temporarily stored and processed in a log file for technical reasons:

  • the IP address (this is anonymized immediately after access)
  • date and time,

  • amount of data transferred,
  • report on whether access/retrieval was successful.

The purpose of collecting this data is to protect the network against attacks, to improve the service and to compile usage statistics. This data is stored for one week.

The legal basis for the data processing is Art. 6 (1) sentence 1 b) GDPR (necessity for the purposes of the legitimate interests pursued).

Your personal data will not be transferred to third parties. There is no automated decision-making and no profiling. It is not intended that the data will be processed for purposes other than those mentioned.

Use of analysis tools and other tools

This website uses Matomo (formerly Piwik), an open-source software for the statistical evaluation of visitor access. Matomo does not use tracker cookies (it works with the function: force tracking without cookies)! The IP address is anonymized immediately after processing and before it is stored. For some parts of the website, the open-source software Webalizer is currently still used for evaluation. Here, the access data is only evaluated in pseudonymized form and then anonymized.

Right to object

Since your personal data is processed on the basis of legitimate interests in accordance with Art. 6 (1) 1 lit. f GDPR, you have the right to object to the processing of your personal data in accordance with Art. 21 GDPR on grounds relating to your particular situation.
