Conflicts of Artificial Intelligence
June 30, 2026 | 6 pm | Akademiegebäude am Gendarmenmarkt | Einstein-Saal | Jägerstraße 22/23 | 10117 Berlin
The technologies grouped under the umbrella term “artificial intelligence” have rapidly integrated into many areas of daily life. Marketed by major tech companies as steps toward “artificial general intelligence”—which is supposed to benefit all of humanity—they open up new opportunities but also give rise to various conflicts that have rarely been addressed so far.
In an interdisciplinary panel discussion, legal scholar Christiane Wendehorst (President of the Philosophy and History Class of the Austrian Academy of Sciences), Academy member Olaf Dössel (Biomedical Engineering), and philosopher and Academy member Julian Nida-Rümelin will discuss, among other things, conflicts emerging from the widespread use of AI. They will also explore how to address these issues in order to integrate AI into our actions in a sustainable and valuable way.
The discussion will be moderated by Claudia Müller-Birn, Professor of Computer Science at the Freie Universität Berlin.

“Geistesblitze” (Flashes of Inspiration)
As part of Musikfestspiele Potsdam Sanssouci
The term “Geistesblitze” (Flashes of Inspiration) is usually used to describe a clever, if not downright brilliant idea, a sudden insight, or a stroke of genius. As part of the very first “Geistesblitze”, a mini-series of short introductions to selected performances at the music festival, conceptualized in collaboration by the Musikfestspiele and the annual theme “Resolving Conflicts!” of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities, experts in their respective fields develop new thoughts, interconnections or antitheses—sparkling, concise, and enlightening.
